Culver's Spicy Chicken Sandwich

When you think about a chicken sandwich, what restaurant do you think of?  Popeyes?  KFC?  Buffalo Wild Wings?  Chick-fil-a?  Perhaps homemade.  Those are all good choices, but what about Culver's?  Of course they make darned good hamburgers, but they offer up a nice chicken sandwich, as well.


So, what makes it good?  The element of surprise, believe it or not.  Everything about it is surprising.  First, it looks exactly like what you see on the billboards, commercials, and their website.  A lot of places use lights and clever camera work to make their product look as good as possible, but when you get it, it doesn't look nearly as appealing.  Not the case here.  What you see is exactly what you get.

Second, the texture is right.  For me, texture is a big deal.  Most places taste like you're eating a deep-fried sponge.  Think about those frozen patties.  Garbage.  This sandwich actually has the texture of chicken.  It really does make all the difference.

Third, you have the crunch.  Holy crap, the crunch.  This thing has serious crunch.  The filet itself, the lettuce, and pickles are all crunchy.  While I don't necessarily look for crunchiness in a chicken sandwich, it certainly isn't a bad thing.

Finally, perhaps most surprising was the heat.  This thing is seriously hot.  It is not to be underestimated.  If you like spicy, it's simply orgasmic.

I'll admit, I had low expectations for Culver's spicy chicken sandwich.  I was expecting something with bad texture and bland flavor.  But what I got was a chicken sandwich that can compete with the big boys.  And more importantly, I found a chicken sandwich that's better than crack.

There's nothing quite like a good beef entrée.  This is especially true of Chinese or pseudo-Chinese food.  Enter Panda Express' Beijing beef. Beijing Beef is a spicy concoction on the Panda Express.  Notice I said SPICY, not HOT.  It won't set your mouth on fire, which was kind of disappointing, considering my tendency to lean toward such foods.  The taste, however, was quite nice.  There are peppers and onion in there, which don't seem to do much for the flavor, but definitely give the dish a better aesthetic. Russell Stover Hearts

So, you're looking for a Valentine's Day gift, but don't want to get the same old stuff.  Cards, flowers, and jewelry are the path of losers with no imagination.  If you really want your significant other to smile, slide them a Russell Stover Heart. These babies are made of a thick layer of chocolate covering whatever they feel like making it cover.  It could be caramel.  It could be cherry filling.  Heck, it could be even more chocolate.  You can even play a game with them.  Simply unwrap a bunch of them, put them in a box, and give it to your loved one.  They'll never know what's inside, but they'll always know it's good. Instead of getting that special someone a dozen rose or a card, give them a dozen of these.  They'll appreciate it more.  You may even get laid.  Chocolate is better than stuff you can't eat.  It's also better than crack.

City Barbecue Beef Brisket Sandwich

There's a lot of things I haven't done a lot of things in life.  One of them is goes to a place called City Barbecue, a restaurant chain that's been around for a while.  Another of those things I've never done is eat a brisket sandwich.  So when a City Barbecue opened in my area, my curiosity was piqued.  And when I saw they had a brisket sandwich on the menu, my interest was piqued even more. The sandwich is a rather simple creation.  It's big pieces of beef brisket and a bun.  You get the option of whether or not you want sauce, which I passed on this trip so I could appreciate the taste of the meat.  And appreciate it I did.
